Information Products - How to Create and Sell Them.

Introduction

Creating and selling info products is the “hot ticket” today. Everyone is talking about it, all the gurus are selling books about it, and all of the forums are talking about it, but is it really worthwhile for you?

I would say, overwhelmingly, yes. There is nothing better for your business than having your own product, and info products are “hot” because people are thirsty for information. That’s what the World Wide Web is all about – it’s the Information Highway!

We’re going to take a look at the why’s and wherefore’s, such as why you should create and sell these products, in other words – what’s in it for you? And then we’re going to learn how to choose a subject and a format, and then create and market the product. Uh oh, I think this is an info product!

Let’s start at the very beginning…

What Are Information Products?

Information products are knowledge based products that help people, educate people, solve a problem, and even entertain.

Literally any product that provides information is fair game. Info products usually take the form of problem solving or “how to” or a combination of both. For instance: how to lose weight quickly, how to cure bad breath or how to get out of debt. Simple “how-to” products might include how to paint a portrait or how to put up shelves.

There are many different presentation formats that you can use to provide valuable content to your audience. Here are a few examples: beginner guides, reviews, interviews with experts, resource lists, case studies, lists of tips, or how-to guides.

Why Create and Sell Information Products?

Whether you have an existing business or are starting a business, creating and selling information products is an excellent way to get a jump-start. Why?

For starters they are inexpensive, easy to create and the profits can last for years. If you have expertise in your niche and can write, you can create an excellent info product.

Basically, if you have a computer with a word processor, you have all the tools you need to create a product. If you don’t think you can actually do the writing yourself - I’m betting you can - but we’ll look at options a little later in the tutorial.

Once you’ve created one product, it’s even easier to come up with more. This offers endless possibilities for up-selling or cross-selling additional products.

Information products are very versatile. You can sell them for a nice profit, use them as viral marketing tools to brand your name and your business, bring traffic to your site or as an incentive to get sign-ups for your list.

You can also sell them at a minimal price to showcase your skills and entice sales of higher priced items. These products can be used in many different ways to build your business and bring in profits.

There is no inventory or logistic costs. No worry about shipping – delivery is at the click of a button and nearly instantaneous. Products can be reproduced at any time and in any quantity you desire – and the cost remains at zero (or minimal).

You have total control and make 100% of the net profit.
