Step 3: Build a Niche Website

The most important and indispensable tool in Affiliate Marketing is having your own website. Not just any website, you need a credible, interesting and professional website. A content-rich website is the starting point for all your marketing efforts.

Your website should be user-friendly, appeal to your prospective customers and encourage them to click on the links to the products or services you're promoting. In other words, your website should cater to the needs of your prospects.

Online customers are searching for information and tend to put their trust (and money) where they find valuable information and expertise on the topic they are researching. Your job then is to build a website full of original, relevant and useful content.

Content is king, and good quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking.

By posting relevant and useful information, you will establish yourself as a credible expert in your field, making you a more trustworthy endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good reputation is a first step in building a loyal consumer base.

I'm not going into any detail in this tutorial on the specifics of building a website. For information on website design and publishing go here.

I do have two suggestions for building an affiliate marketing website and business, however. For those of you who want to do it yourself, I recommend Rosalind Gardner's Affiliate Blogger Pro which shows you how she builds her very successful websites using web authoring software.

Not only will you get instruction on website building, but on building a successful affiliate business as well. She starts at the beginning with topics such as myths, doing business online, choosing a domain name, etc. and takes you through the entire process of building a successful business.

If you follow Rosalind's advice you'll also need a website building tool. My recommendation for this is Solo Build It! (SBI). SBI is a one-stop, all encompassing deal.

You will receive some of the best advice and instruction on the web today for building a successful website and online business. You will also receive web hosting, web design and website building tools, as well as marketing tools and advice.

SBI will save you time and effort by simplifying the process of website building, plus it provides a recipe for your business success.

If I sound a little prejudice here, I am. I found Solo Build It! when I was starting out and frankly, I'm not sure I could have built eBook Crossroads without the training and website building help I received from this program.

Step 4: Place Adsense On Your Website

The easiest way to start up your revenue potential is by incorporating Google AdSense into your website. AdSense provides a passive income and primes your monetization effort.

What is AdSense and how does it work? Let's take a look...

AdSense merchants place ads with Google and the AdSense program allows you to display these ads on your website. As a partner of Google, when your visitors click through the ads, you earn a share of the money that the merchant pays Google.

What's great about AdSense is that Google uses its advanced, proprietary technology and algorithms to determine the content of each of your web pages and delivers ads that are contextually relevant.

Seeing ads that are related to their interests drives your visitors to click through the ads, thereby providing revenue for you.

Additionally, knowing that your website has the information and products that they are looking for, will keep your visitors coming back.

Repeat customers multiply your income without having to exert extra effort to convince them again to click through your links. Since you already have their confidence, they can be your endorsers as well. In other words they could refer your site to family, friends and business associates who share their interests.

In order to boost your AdSense revenues you have to make sure your website pages are relevant and keyword optimized.

Becoming an AdSense affiliate is fast and easy. You simply apply online and when approved, set up the ads for your site, then copy and paste the codes into your web pages.

The bottom line is that you convert free traffic, that you built through search engine optimization, into paid traffic (paid by advertisers). It's a win-win situation, and it's all free for the taking. Make the most of you affiliate marketing opportunities and build a foundation with Google AdSense!

Step 5: List Your Site In Search Engines And Major Directories

Get a jumpstart on getting your website advertising going and put your website listing in the search engines and directories. Here are a few to get you going:

Search Engines

Ask Jeeves

Directories (Free and Paid)

Librians Internet Index
Starting Point
Go Guides

If you want more options there is a good listing at Strongest Links.
